Story[]
In the Second Age of Middle-earth, the lords of Elves, Dwarves and Men are given Rings of Power. Unbeknownst to them, the Dark Lord Sauron forges the One Ring at Mount Doom, instilling much of his power in it, to dominate the other Rings and conquer Middle-earth. A final alliance of Men and Elves fights Sauron's forces in Mordor. Isildur of Gondor cuts off Sauron's finger and the Ring with it, thus defeating Sauron and returning him to his spiritual form. With Sauron's first defeat, the Third Age of Middle-earth begins. The Ring's influence corrupts Isildur, who takes it for himself and is then killed by the Orcs. The Ring is lost in a river for 2,500 years until it is found by Gollum, who possesses it for over four and a half centuries. The Ring abandons Gollum and is later found by a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, who is unaware of its history.
Walkthrough[]
The level starts you off at the slopes of Mount Doom. You play as Elendil, Isildur, and Elrond. Your first objective is to defeat five orcs with target flags. They may be hard to find in the crowd. After that, you will have to defeat three more target orcs and this time they have shields. Disarm them and defeat them. After defeating all three, Mount Doom erupts and three orcs rise on Morgul platforms. Use Elendil's sword to destroy the platforms and defeat the orcs.
After a cutscene, you'll be fighting Sauron. Use the save statue if you want to save. Wait for Sauron to swing through the crowd. Avoid his mace when he attacks. When his mace gets stuck, use Elindel to break it, knocking off a heart. Repeat two times to defeat Sauron.
You're now in Mount Doom. Elindel's gone but Isildur now has Elindel's broken sword. Save if you must and jump over the platform to the other side of the lava. Jump on the bars on the cliff and shuffle to the right. Jump one more bar and up to the cliff. Isildur can now break morgul blocks, so break them so that you can progress. Jump across two platforms to cross the lava. Be careful of the flames coming out of the wall. After breaking more morgul blocks, jump onto a bar and shuffle to cross the lava. Some orcs will break out of a wall. Defeat them and walk on the slanted plank up higher. Once you're up, use Elrond to jump to a higher platform. Then push the rock into the lava to make a platform. Break the morgul rocks on the right. The ones on Elrond's platform just reveal a Minikit. Jump over the lava spout. Make your way to the right, go northward, jump on a hard-to-see rock, then up a bar, then get up. You will find a doorway. Defeat the orcs guarding it while dodging the falling rocks. More orcs break out of the door. Defeat them and go through the door.
You made it to the platform. Defeat all the orcs until a cutscene happens where Elrond tells Isildur to cast the ring into the fire, which Isildur refuses. Galadriel then narrates the story of the ring.
Collectables[]
S means that the collectible can be obtained both in Story and in Free Play. F means the collectible can only be obtained in Free Play.
- Minikit Chests
- (F) This minikit is located in the upper left corner of the area where you fight the orcs. Use a character with a shovel to dig it up.
- (F) During the first fight with the orcs, you will see three targets in the distance. Hit them with a character with bow and you will receive this minikit when the last one is destroyed.
- (F) In the same place where you get the Magma Armor, you will also find a broken tile. Throw Gimli at it and enter a cave - you will arrive at a sauna. Use the elven rope on the hook in the distance and switch characters so Sam is below - you will need both on the rock ledge. Pick up Gimli and throw him on the broken tiles. Then use a climbing character to scale a wall. Switch to a character capable of breaking Morgul objects and break the Morgul brick. The minikit will appear underwater in the middle of the area.
- (F) Destroy five statues of Sauron located in the third area to obtain this minikit:
- The first one is in the area of the third minikit, just before the lava stream.
- The second one is on a spit next to the lava river that can be crossed using the handholds.
- The third one is right below the leaves that the Elves can use.
- The fourth one is on the left side of the door before the entrance to the final area.
- The fifth one is on the right side of the door before the entrance to the final area.
- (F) This minikit can be found near the fire trap in the third area. Throw Gimli onto the broken tile and shoot the target with a character with bow. The trap will lock and the increased pressure will eject parts of the minikit. Use them to build this minikit.
- (F) This minikit is located under the handholds that you can use to avoid the lava river. Approach the river with a character with Elven Rope and press the action button to attract the stone with this minikit.
- (F) This minikit is found in a cave from which a pair of orcs emerge in the third area. Use a character that can light up to reveal this minikit.
- (S) Drop the rock into the lava river, stand next to the slab and destroy the Morgul rocks with a character capable of breaking Morgul objects. This minikit is inside the cave.
- (F) Use the Berserker's bombs to destroy a mithril cage and go through the hatch with a small character. The minikit can be found on the other side of the corridor, on a rock ledge high above you.
- (F) Right after heading to the final area, use a character with bow to shoot the target above you and reveal this minikit.
- Treasures
- Elven Sword
- (F) During the fight with Sauron, switch to the Berserker and head to the upper left corner of the battlefield. Destroy some mithril stones with a couple of well-placed explosives. Pick up the sword and place it in your inventory.
- Magma Armor
- (F) At the beginning of the third area, you will find a small lava fountain. Destroy it to reveal loose ground that you can dig up with a character with shovel. Hide the armor in your inventory.
- Shimmering Armor
- (F) On the right side of the area of the third minikit, you will find an orange handle. Pull it with a character with super strength and store the armor in your inventory.
- Elven Sword
- Blacksmith Design
- Mithril Shockwave Axe
- (F) It is located in the niche behind the wooden door that is previously covered by the box with the handle for the third treasure. Destroy the door to get this Blacksmith Design.
- Mithril Shockwave Axe
